come let us reason

It seems these days that people are somewhat loathed to think and reason, to challenge assumptions and paradigms. In this coming age of post-modernism, if it is not already here, there is an increased need for people to reason and think, to challenge assumptions and paradigms, to seek and find the truth for themselves.

Sadly, such desire to think and reason seems lacking in this day and age, especially among the young. The abundance of electronic distractions have, in my opinion, replaced much of the time and energy which could be better devoted to some thought of life. Gone indeed is the days of Rene Descartes. Few these days can, or will, quote "I think, therefore I am" as their life philosophies. While I am no authority or in any position to say that the modern times is a better age of enlightenment but surely it is essential that people continually think and reason out their life philosophies, especially in this post-modern age. Too many are the young people who live their lives behind a cascade of entertainment gadgets and spare little thought for their lives, to reason out the meaning of their existence and the quest for truth and intellectual development. Life becomes a going through of the motion with the destination unknonwn, unconsidered; an apathy to the consideration of life, as it is.

Such cannot be. There is an urgent need for people to regain the intellectual landcape of their minds and develop clear and critical thinking capabilites, that which all man is born with. If that most essential of hallmarks which separate man from other animals is lost, what difference is there then when one considers a man and an ape?

In my opinion, one of the first and most critical steps, is to be willing to think and challenge their existing assumptions and paradigms, that which has been sub-consciously constructed through social pressures and influences; the willingness to challenge ones own paradigms, to engage with other in seeking what is true and worth living for, that one may find, and live, a meaningful and purposeful life.
