purposeful VS eventful
In this day and age, it is easy to become so embroiled in things to do that we lose ourselves in our busyness. Yet, at the end of a long and hard day of busyness, we still sometime reach home and feel unfulfilled, unsatisfied. It is at such times that we need to tear ourselves away from our hectic schedules for a while for some much needed self-reflection.
Purposeful and eventful are two almost mutually exclusive terms(oxymoron!). A purposeful day may or may not be eventful and an eventful day may or may not be purposeful. Having a day packed to the brim with events may not bring about that sense of achievement at the end of the day -- a day which has been eventful but not purposeful.
Purposeful is defined in the Merriam-Webster Online Dicationary as:
having a purpose, meaningful, intentional; full of determination.
Eventful is defined from the same source as:
full or rich in events; momentous.
Of course, although eventful is defined as momentous, it is obvious that not every event is a momentous one.
In my humble opinion, it is of utmost importance that we strive to live purposeful days as opposed to eventful days, if we desire that sense of achievement and fulfillment at the end of each day. Bearing in mind that purposeful doesn't necessarily mean eventful, that would mean we focus our time, energies and monies only on events that have a strong purpose. Events that do not have a strong purpose, or of little purpose, can still be participated in but not to the extent that those replace events with more purpose.
In the end, this is a simple call for us all to take time regularly to take a break and rethink our lives, to see if we are focusing our time and energies on that which is purposeful or are we simply choking our schedules full of events which bring little sense of purpose and fulfillment. As purpose is tied strongly to each individual, one man's food (purpose) can easily be another man's poison (event). Hence, only you yourself, will know what is of purpose to yourself. So, take time for that solitude, and may your remaining days be ones of purpose and fulfillment.

Indeed but that begets the question of what is purpose... And that's a tough one.
