Reflection of the Day

A very thought provoking and mature reflection from a group of young people with reference to the nursery rhyme of Humpty Dumpty:
"Life is life and the church itself is only a part of it.
If only the church was in its rightful place,
Maybe Humpty would not have had a wall to fall from in the first place.
Or if the wall had not been so high
His fall would not have been so severe."
Where is the church's rightful place? An anonymous quote strikes the nail on the head.
"The church is the only body that exist primarily for the benefit of those who are not its members."
Jesus, in His High Priestly prayer puts it so:
"They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; Thy word is truth. As Thou didst send Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth. I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me." [emphasis mine]
John 17:16-20 (NASB)

Clearly, one of the fundamental purpose of the Church (and I mean all believers in Christ and not the local church) is that in and through the Church, the world may believe in Jesus. The first question that pops to mind is, is the Church fulfilling that fundamental purpose? It's a fundamental purpose of the Church, it's a fundamental purpose for me and you, believers in Christ, individually and corporately. May we continue, and in increasing measure, live such lives that glorify God that the world may believe in Jesus as the Christ.
